Description: Precise management of irrigation water in olive is of paramount importance to achieve high yield and increase product quality. With this extension-oriented, highly collaborative and multidisciplinary project, we aim to: 1) characterize water use of table and oil olive systems in California, using Eddy Covariance and Surface Renewal techniques, 2) identify drought-resistant tree phenological stages of development and 3) select physiologically-desirable levels of stress for olive that would increase water productivity of the systems. This information will be used to develop and outreach grower-friendly irrigation protocols using combination of traditional and more innovative approaches.
