Investigating ACC as a potential strategy for improving fruit removal and anticipating harvest in Almonds

Description: The California almond industry has been looking at an early and off-ground harvest for a long time because these approaches could improve harvest efficiency, reduce pest incidence by accelerating nut ripening, and reduce dust pollution by limiting sweeping and pickup operations associated with conventional on-ground harvest. This project focuses on plant regulators to hasten fruit ripening and harvest efficiency for almonds.  


 

We aim to investigate ACC (1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid) as a potential harvest aid for growers, with the goal of accelerating nut ripening to improve harvest efficiency and potentially for an early harvest.
