Funded by the California Pistachio research board (PIs: Dr. Gary Banuleos and Dr. Phoebe Gordon)
Description: Pistachio is very resistant to salinity and boron, and for this reason largely grown on salt affected soil, where its performances are often reduced. While correct water management is clearly a priority under this condition, most of the common indicators of water status used for irrigation management are not valid to characterize the relationship between pistachio trees and soil moisture availability under saline stress.
We aim to improve this information and develop innovative indicators and water management strategies to cope with marginal soil conditions.
